Atlas Copco to acquire GIA, broadens offering for mining and tunneling
Stockholm, Sweden, December 16, 2011: Atlas Copco AB has agreed to acquire the underground business of GIA Industri AB from Vätterledens Invest AB.
With the acquisition, Atlas Copco broadens its offering with products including electric mine trucks, utility vehicles and ventilation systems.
GIA Industri AB was founded in 1884 and has been owned by Vätterledens Invest AB since 1994. The GIA headquarter and production facility is located in Grängesberg, Sweden. The acquired business has 113 employees and annual revenues of about MSEK 250. The seller will retain the operations of GIA that are not related to mining. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

GIA's products also include locomotives and shuttle car systems for underground transportation, charging and service trucks, scaling and cable bolting equipment, digging arm loaders (Häggloader) and complete ventilation systems. GIA Industri AB will be part of the Underground Rock Excavation division within Mining and Rock Excavation Technique. The acquisition is expected to be closed during the first quarter of 2012.

Häggloader 8HR and shuttlecars to South Africa

GIA will deliver 3 Häggloaders 8HR2 and 9 Shuttlercars to Impala Platinum in Rustenburg, some 100 kms NW of Johannesburg.
These machines will be used for expanding the mine by developing a new shaft. This is the first GIA equipment deal in South Africa together with GHH Mining Machines Pty. Ltd.
Delivery in January 2012.

GIAMEC 211 Scissor lift

GIA will in the end of this year deliver 2 units GIAMEC 211 scissor lift to Caraíba Metais in Brazil.
June-July 2011
Häggloader 10HR

GIA will together with our representative in Peru P&T Mining Equipment S.A.C. deliver 5 units Häggloader 10HR to Odebrecht in Perù.
These machines will be used on project Chaglla Hydroelectric Power plant in Peru which starts at the end of the year.
